ABILITIES   :❝ WITCHCRAFT. Rowena is a natural-born witch, and a very powerful one at that. Her magical abilities are substantial — one could even argue second-to-none — and she is considered to be one of the most dangerous witches in the world. She owns the Book of the Damned, meaning she is able to perform spellwork that no other has access to. She is adept at spellcasting, creating hex bags, both casting and removing curses, magical healing, telekinesis, astral projection, and more. She also has a prolonged lifespan and has several resurrection seals in place, meaning that even if she is killed, she won't stay dead.❝ SPELLCRAFTING. Rowena is the creator of several spells, including Defigere Et Depurgare, one of the only spells in existence that is capable of killing demons. She is also prolific for using her Attack Dog Spell, which causes the victim's nose and eyes to bleed as they begin to act like a rabid attack dog. Typically, the spell results in the death of the victim. It is noted that Rowena is capable of preventing this outcome if she so desires, but her disregard for the lives of others means she rarely does so.❝ MANIPULATION. Rowena is incredibly skilled in manipulation. She is a fundamentally selfish person and will throw anybody under the bus in order to further her own goals. She is not above using people's feelings against them — for example, pretending to care for her son when she was actually just using his position as King of Hell to further her own agenda. She also regularly strings people — especially men — along romantically, getting what she wants from them before kicking them to the curb without a second thought.

❝ Rowena was born in 1638, the only child of a tanner and his wife. She was very much unwanted; her parents could barely afford to look after themselves, never mind adding a child to the mix. Rowena grew up dirt poor and emotionally neglected by her parents — as she grew older, she became more and more set on leaving this life behind and getting herself into a higher standing. Her mother died when Rowena was just shy of 9. Following this, her father fully succumbed to alcoholism and abandoned Rowena.
Around age 13, Rowena began showing a natural talent for magic. Obviously, this was not beneficial to her popularity in her village, but it did open up a new world for her. As she grew up, she began assimilating into the small witch scene in her locale, including attending Solstice orgies. This is how Fergus came about; he was conceived at a winter solstice orgy, but his father also did tell Rowena he loved her and would provide for their child, but was nowhere to be seen when said child came along. Rowena resented Fergus from the start for this; as far as she’s concerned, he ruined her life and stopped her doing things, getting what she wanted, and following her own selfish urges and desires. She didn't want to be responsible for him, so she ended up repeating the behaviour of her own father and abandoning her son when he was 8 years old.

Rowena existed as a nomad for a while, getting by mostly via the manipulation of others. The only exceptional circumstance to this was the family of a boy named Oskar, who she did actually become somewhat fond of. Oskar was easier to care for than Fergus — she didn't have any actual responsibility for him, he didn't inhibit her. Auntie Rowena could hang around for a bit and be adored by the young boy, but she never had to care about ensuring he was actually looked after and raised.
She got bored there eventually and decided to leave, but she cured Oskar of his sickness first. Rowena was, after all, quite fond of him, so curing him and granting him immortality was just a little parting gift from Auntie Wena.Rowena was then headhunted by the Grande Coven, because this was quite an impressive piece of magic for an untrained, solo young witch. She rose the ranks quickly, but her ruthlessness and ambition became points of contention, especially with the senior coven members. They were, she believes, scared of her, scared that she might change things, that she would overtake them. So they cast her out of the coven, leaving her alone once more.
She wanders again for a while. Eventually, she hears talk about this King of Hell, and the news that her son now has such a position of authority is like a gazelle to a hungry lion. Her priorities shift instantly — her new top objective is finding her son and worming her way in with him. After all, who needs the Grande Coven when you’re the Queen Mother of Hell?

However, her plans don't quite work out as she'd have liked, and Crowley sends her away. Hellbent on revenge, Rowena agrees to work with Sam Winchester to cure his brother of the Mark of Cain in exchange for Sam killing Crowley. Unfortunately for Rowena, this also doesn't work out the way she wanted. Following the successful removal of the Mark, Rowena escapes with nothing but the Book of the Damned and one hell of a grudge against everyone she'd just left behind. She's got no loyalty to Crowley or the Winchesters and doesn't think twice before leaving them all in the rear view mirror. However, she’ll help them out so long as there’s something in it for her.
Everything is about power. Rowena loves herself more than anything else, and everything she does is either simply to appease her own desires (sex, luxury, extravagance) or to get herself into a position of power that she thinks she’s inherently worthy of.

❝ FORCE OF NATURE. Rowena is a natural-born witch, meaning her magical abilities are something she was born with. They first began to manifest when she was around 13 years old and only grew stronger as she aged. After obtaining the Book of the Damned, she is considered one of the deadliest witches in the world.❝ THE LION RAMPANT. Rowena often hums Scotland the Brave to herself when she's doing something menial. She also has a marimba version of the song as her phone ringtone. She can speak Scottish Gaelic and Scots as well as, obviously, English. She uses Gaelic for spellwork; when crafting her own spells, Rowena will create the incantations in Gaelic if not Latin. She's very connected to her homeland and, despite not residing there full time, considers her heritage and nationality important parts of who she is.❝ BLACK WIDOW. Rowena has had 17 fiancés'. All have been wealthy, single, with no dependents. All fell hard and fast for a beautiful, sophisticated redheaded woman who was everything they'd ever dreamed of. All met unexpected and unfortunate ends.

❝ MEGA COVEN. Rowena's primary goal moving forward is establishing her own coven to rival and eventually best the Grande Coven. She is always on the lookout for powerful witches or other beings that might be an asset and will try to sway them into joining her.❝ WEE BIRDIE. As a child, Rowena looked after a baby bird. It was a little robin with a broken wing, and she preened its feathers while it was recovering. She was only 12 at this point; it was before the death of her mother and abandonment by her father, before the world really made her cold and ruthless. Rowena was never a sweet, innocent little thing by any means, but she had enough nice in her that she’d help an injured little bird. It was one of the first instances of something seeming to care about her, because the little bird would come back to visit after it was better, as if it was grateful. All these years later, she still thinks about her wee robin redbreast when she preens Fayette's wings.❝ MANEATER. Though many assume her bisexual, Rowena actually only has genuine romantic interest in women. Men are pawns to her, not legitimate paramours. If she is ever entertaining a man, understand that she is merely using him for money, influence, or power.
